Little Battlers eXperience: Hi-Grade Customization announced for GREE, screenshots + global plans inside

Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino and GREE CEO Yoshikazu Tanaka show off LBX Hi-Grade Customization

Level-5 and social gaming giant GREE Inc. have announced a new “comprehensive global partnership” that’ll see three Level-5 franchises have exclusive entries on the mobile gaming platform. The three selected were announced to be Inazuma Eleven with its spinoff, “Atsumeyouze”, Ni No Kuni with “Daibouken Monsters”, and of course LBX with the only somewhat English title “Hi-Grade Customization” (Working title). Unfortunately at the press conference the focus was largely put on Ni No Kuni, but it’s said all titles will be available by Q2 2012, which means they’ll be available before the end of June. Each title will be free to play with micro transactions.

While no information on gameplay or story for LBX: Hi-Grade Customization we did find out it’s a bit different from the norm. Rather than the 2D graphics of the last mobile LBX title, LBX for ROID, LBX: Hi-Grade Customization features full 3D models. In a franchise first this game will not actually be developed internally by Level-5, but rather Japanese mobile developer Edia. In another franchise first it may be the first mobile LBX title to be released internationally:

For those who are unaware of what GREE is, it’s a Japanese mobile gaming service that offers games from some of Japan’s most notable development houses. The games are often focused on social experiences, and attempt to be “border-less” with both iOS and Android support. The Level-5 titles (LBX: HGC included) have been announced for both smart phone, and feature phone compatibility. GREE has made an effort recently to expand to the western world, and made a point of in the press release this morning (emphasis added):

GREE and LEVEL-5, a leading game publisher in Japan today announced that they have agreed on a global partnership to bring three successful mobile social game titles exclusively to the upcoming GREE Platform …

GREE and LEVEL-5 will bring together their expertise in mobile social gaming and the free-to-play business model, to bring these well-known games to mobile players around the world

This will mark the first time that the highly successful Japanese fantasy RPG series “Ni no Kuni” will be available on mobile. The pre-registration starts on March 21, 2012 in Japan, and the title will be released worldwide on the “GREE Platform.”

GREE and LEVEL-5 will also launch the first mobile versions of the highly popular Inazuma Eleven and Little Battlers eXperience™ series on the GREE platform. Both games are primarily children’s games but will feature content that will appeal to gamers of all ages, globally

LEVEL-5 has been expanding business not only in Japan but overseas, focusing on “creating the best entertainment brand in the world.” Starting with “NI NO KUNI: DAIBOUKEN MONSTERS*1,” LEVEL-5 will provide various game titles for users around the world on the new global “GREE Platform.

As well, this press release confirms that the series will be known as “Little Battlers eXperience” outside of Japan rather than a translation of “Danball Senki” which literally means Cardboard Chronicles.
